A sad week at Pet Assistance, Inc.
It's been a very stressful week at Pet Assistance. Several of the animals we helped did not "make it" despite our contribution towards their care. Other pet owners could never raise enough money to get their pet the emergency care they needed. My heart goes out to the people who had to watch their pet die a painful death at home, all because no vet would take on the case without $1500 up front! Maybe the dog wouldn't have 'made it' anyhow.....but at least let it have a pain free death.
By the time pet owners call us for help they have already used up all their personal resources. One or two people over the years have taken advantage of our services, but at least their pets lived. Always a few bad apples...as the saying goes.
It is so much easier when cases, although critical, are common and clear cut. (like bladder stones, foreign object ingestion, simple fractures.) It's the tough ones to diagnose and treat that are draining emotionally and financially.
I must think positive....about all the pets we help that have happy endings. Will try to make this my mantra.
